This is the how-to part of the library, the part where I will be placing articles that describe the skills and techniques used to design, plan and build cabinet and furniture projects. Since the techniques are rather conceptual, I have set up a companion, the Projects department, which houses ideas and plans for skill-building projects that you can use to develop your technique.

The following pages will be dedicated to describing many common techniques, or processes, used in various aspects of woodworking.  The idea here is not to include projects (which have their own department), but to concentrate on the essential skills, concepts, and thought processes that are used by many skilled woodworkers as one half of the means by which they create things from wood.  This department builds on information in the Materials department, which contains some of the most basic techniques related to using the various materials used in woodworking.
